Tiger Woods’ win at Bayhill sent a clear message to the rest of the field that he’s back and large and in charge! Touting a brand new blonde girlfriend (completely un-releated… or is it??), Woods reclaimed his place as the World’s best Golfer. What does this victory mean for Woods by the numbers:

  •  Woods reclaimed the Number 1 spot in the world for first time since October 2010, climbing back from his lowest ranking of 58 and ending the longest period in his career being out of the top spot.
  • This is Woods’ 11th time becoming number 1, tying Greg Norman.
  • This week will be Woods’ 624th week as world number 1 or an even 12 years if you add that time together!Round 3
  • This was Woods 8th title win At Bayhill, tying a PGA Tour record for the most wins in a single tournament. (Sam Snead won the Greater Greensboro Open eight time from 1938 to 1965)
  • Woods’ win at Arnold Palmer’s Bayhill tied his own personal recorded for most wins at a single golf course. (He’s also won at Torrey Pines 8 times)
  • Woods is currently the only player to win 3 tournaments this year (Farmers Insurance, WGC-Cadillac, Bayhill) and will be the fourth time in his career with three PGA Tour wins going into the Masters (2000, 2003, 2008). Woods didn’t win a jacket in any of those years but did go on to win a major in at least two of those years.
  • Wood’s win at Bayhill last year was his first win in 2 1/2 years. Since then, he has won 6 times in the past 20 starts accounting for a 30% winning percentage; 3% above his career average (27%)
  • Doral followed by Bayhill is Woods’ first time winning back-to-back starts since 2009 when he won the Buick Open and Bridgestone Invitational.
  • 2013 Bayhill is Woods’ 77th PGA Tour win, moving him within 5 of tying Sam Snead’s record of 82 PGA Tour wins.
  • Woods is now 41-2 when he leads outright after 54 holes and 51-4 when he holds or shares the 54 hole lead.
  • Woods had three eagles in this past tournament compared to four eagles all of last year.
  • At Bayhill, Woods’ putting was on point, making 19 of 28 putts from between 7 – 20 feet.
  • Woods’ approach shots this year definitely contribute to his victories. Last year, he was ranked 102th or worse in green in regulation from 75 – 100 yards, 100-125 and 125-150 yards. This year, Woods is no worse than 69th in each of those categories.

All eyes will be on McIlroy this week, who can reclaim the World’s number 1 spot with a win at the Houston Open. Woods overall seems like he’s in good shape going into Augusta, where he’ll be chasing his 15th career major to put him one close to Nicklaus’ record of 18.

Woods’ hasn’t won a major since 2008 (US Open) or the Masters since 2005, so he’s definitely due. With this past win, GolfOdds.com now has Tiger listed as a 3/1 favorite to win Augusta!
